Tyler, TX -Â The Hendrix College Women's Soccer team kicked off Sunday afternoon play by taking on the Patriots of UT Tyler.
UT Tyler outshot the Warriors in the first half, but senior keeper
Jordan Rausch stood tall in the opening 45. Rausch made five saves in the first half, single handedly keeping the Warriors within striking distance.
The Patriots did break through in the 54' with a goal by Bailey Wooten, giving Hendrix a 1-0 deficit half way through the second half.
The second half was played out much as the first half had, and the story for the Warriors continued to be in net. Rausch saved three from UT Tyler in the second half, adding to the five saves she made in the opening frame.
Sophomore
Hagan Griffith, senior
Lucy Moore and senior
Janie Stultz provided the shots on goal for Hendrix; however, no one was able to solve UT Tyler keeper Emily Hurley. The Warriors fell to the Patriots 1-0, falling to 0-2 on the season.
"Very rarely am I happy with a negative result in a game," said Head Coach
Jeff Trimble. "I have to say today I was very proud of the girls and how hard they played. I felt like we created a lot of great chances to score and played really good soccer defensively. When you have two good teams playing very hard against each other sometimes it comes down to capitalizing on opportunities and I felt like UT Tyler took advantage of a mistake we made and we need to get better at taking advantage of our own oppertunities."
Hendrix will be back in action this Tuesday when they travel to Marshall, TX and take on the Tigers of East Texas Baptist.
