Warriors Earn First Win of the Season Against East Texas Baptist

Marshall, TX - The Hendrix College Women's Soccer team had played in two games this season decided by one goal or less. Until Tuesday afternoon the Warriors just hadn't been able to find a way to win those close games. Hendrix scored the only goal of the game against East Texas Baptist University, defeating the Tigers 1-0 for their first win of the season in front of the away crowd.

On an rainy September afternoon, the Warriors and Tigers played each other very evenly throughout the day even after the two hour lightning delay. A majority of the match saw both sides battle for possession in the midfield, with neither defense willing to concede the game's first goal.

The teams went into the locker room at halftime with HC up 1-0 after scoring the first goal in the game at the 40'. This goal would end up being the game winner as nether team would score in the second half.

That first and crucial goal came when freshman Rebecca Biggin took the ball and buried it past the keeper on a kick from 20 yards out into the goal area, giving the Warriors the 1-0 lead.

However, the Tigers made Hendrix earn every second of this hard fought win. They put an enormous amount of pressure on the Warriors defense, trying to tie the game in the final moments; however, senior keeper Jordan Rausch stood tall in net and saved all four shots on goal.

"It was a weird night," Said Head Coach Jeff Trimble. "I felt like we played well in the first half but didn't really respond very well in the second. They were a good team and outworked us in the second half. I was proud that we hung on to win but were going to have to work harder in the future."

The win improved Hendrix's record to 1-2 overall. The Warriors will be back in action on Sunday, when they host the Crusaders of Mary Harden-Baylor at 12 pm.
