Sewanee, TN -
Nate Hodapp had 144 yards and three touchdowns, including a 29-yard touchdown from a connecting pass from
Miles Thompson with 12 minutes remaining to seal Hendrix a 48-42 victory over host Sewanee in today's SAA match-up.
Blake Hinton had 39 yards on four catches.
Thompson finished 27 of 43 for 279 yards with four touchdowns. Thompson also had a part of six of the Warriors seven touchdowns.
Chad McGonigal finished with eight tackles and an interception for 18-yards.
Zack Rice had eight stops with an interception as well for 35-yards, and
Kody Smith added eight tackles also.
Hendrix led 48-21 in the fourth quarter and had some defensive struggles letting the Tigers back in the game. The Tigers were able to score 21 points in the fourth quarter to try and make a come back but HC would ultimately come away with the 48-42 hard fought victory.
"We are happy to be sitting at 4-1 at the halfway point of the season," said Head Coach
Buck Buchanan. "We have had some great individual performances and today was no exception.
Miles Thompson and
Nate Hodapp carried our offense today. Defensively we were able to turn back to back interceptions from
Zack Rice and Chad M. into two quick scores before halftime as we showed that we could play as a team for the first time this year. I was disappointed for two weeks in a row, we seem to want to read the press clippings before they are published, as we were not able to convert critical drives nor get the needed stops in the fourth quarter. I give Sewanee credit as they fought harder than they ever have in the past. Coach Rundle is doing a great job there and my hats off to him and his team today. I am glad we could come away with the win, and there are a lot of things that we can take away from this game to get us ready to attack the second half of your season.
Hendrix will return to Crafton-Faulkner Field for a SAA conference game against Birmingham Southern next Saturday at 1 pm.
