Tyler, TX - The Hendrix women's volleyball team wrapped up their second day at the UT Tyler Tournament. They started the day by facing Hardin Simmons. After taking the first two sets the Warriors faltered in the third but came out to win the fourth set for a hard fought 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 25-17) victory.
All the sets were competitive and hard fought for Hendrix. The Warriors hit for a combined .382 in the game, totaling only 14 attacking errors compared to the 24 for the Cowgirls. While the Warriors only had two more kills than Hardin-Simmons (40-38), the HSU errors were too much to overcome as they ultimately fell 3-1 to HC.
There was a number of eye-popping stat lines for the Warriors in the win as
Lauren Petrisin finished with a match-high nine kills, while
Lauren Dwyer added eight.
Amber Melcher and
Sesalie Satterwhite each dished out 15 assists.
Defensively
Hannah Moore led the way with 20 digs, while Dwyer (18), Melcher (11) and
Brianna Kelly (11) also had spectacular nights.
The win improved Hendrix to 2-5 overall, as Hendrix went right back to it when they took on UT Dallas for their second match of the day.
Hendrix played well defensively in their second matchup against the Comets, holding them to a team hitting percentage of just .187 over the four sets. The Warriors accumulated a total of ten team blocks and finished with 106 digs.Â
Unfortunately for Hendrix the offense couldn't put them over the hump even though eight Warriors were able to record kills in the match. Of those Dwyer had a team high 12 kills, while
Maddie Tovar had ten of her own.
Melcher assisted on 15Â of the Warriors 46 kills, while also adding 16 digs.Â
The loss drops Hendrix to 2-6 overall as they look forward to taking on Rhodes College this Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
