Birmingham, AL - The Hendrix College men's basketball team traveled to Birmingham, AL this afternoon to take on Birmingham Southern College in a SAA Conference game that pitted to tough teams against one another.
The Warriors fell to 4-11, 2-2 SAA with the 104-92 loss.
"This was a tough night for us with respect to bounces of the ball," said Head Coach
Thad McCracken. "Give BSC credit, they had guys step us and make a lot of shots. That coupled with some mental mistakes from us was the difference in the game. We are not going to make any excuses about our lack of depth from having guys out with injury and illness. We have to focus on what we can control and tonight we just didn't control what we needed to. I'm proud of our fight though as we had ourselves a few chances down the stretch but ultimately we got in our own way by losing discipline. Each time we relaxed, they made us pay. I'm confident we will respond and play well on Sunday. That's the good thing about these conference weekends, there is no time to feel sorry for ourselves, we have to just pick each other up and get ready to fight again Sunday."
Birmingham Southern outscored Hendrix 51-41 in the first half and then held on for the win in the second half.
The Panthers shot 14-23; 60.9% from three-point range in the game and held a large advantage in free throws 20-10 over Hendrix and it was the difference in the game.
Hendrix was led offensively by a trio of players;
Kam Brasfield,
Preston Smith and
Marcis Hall. Brasfield had 27 points. Smith finished with 15 points and Hall also had 15 in the loss.
The Warriors also had contributions by
Eli Fisher who had 14 points off of the bench. Fisher hit four three-pointers. Â
Hendrix returns to action on Jan. 14th when they travel to Jackson, MI to face Millsaps. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
