Warriors on Wrong End of Conference Match-Up with Stormy Petrels

Conway, AR - After a hosting Rhodes College on Tuesday the Warriors continued to defend their home court in a big SAA match-up with the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe. Hendrix entered play sitting tied for first place in the SAA standings with a record of 3-9 overall, 1-0 SAA.

The game got off to a slow start with each team fighting hard for every bucket. OU however, was able to grab control.

In a very defensive battle Hendrix found themselves down 16-8 after OU jumper at the 15-minute mark.

A three-pointer put Oglethorpe up 23-16 as they continued to hold onto the lead.

Oglethorpe was able to put a holt to any run that Hendrix tried to go on. Down nine with under three minutes remaining in the half, Michael Calamese would get a lay-up to cut the Warriors deficit to seven.

The Stormy Petrels were able to tally the final two points of the half and the teams headed into the locker room with Oglethorpe ahead 44-34.

Despite getting off to a slow start the Warriors shot 49.6% from the field including six made threes.

Oglethorpe maintained their lead in the second half never letting the Warriors take the lead as they ultimately fell 84-74.

"I felt our guys competed and played about as hard as they possibly could," said Head Coach Thad McCracken. "This is one of those rare times where we have a lot of guys out with injury and illness. Fortunately we had some guys step up including a few that were battling sickness or injury themselves. We grew in a positive way tonight and hopefully we can rebound quickly for Sunday's game."

The Warriors had three players in double figures and were led by Preston Smith with 23 points. The other Warriors in double figures were Kam Brasfield, (17) and Marcis Hall (11).

The loss dropped Hendrix to the five hundred mark in conference play and their record now stands at 3-10 overall, 1-1 SAA. Jacob Link also added to the offense for HC finishing with nine points. Eli Fisher had a nice game in front of the Warriors faithful with seven points.

Hendrix will get another shot at an SAA opponent as they host Berry for a bout with the Vikings on January 7th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
