Conway, AR -Â The Hendrix College men's basketball team got back to action this afternoon in an SAA match-up with Berry College.
The Warriors entered the game looking to bounce back from their ten-point defeat at the hands of Oglethorpe on Friday. Â
The Warriors came out of the gates strong, jumping out to a four-point lead 27-23 in the first portion of the first half. Hendrix entered the locker room with a ten-point lead 49-39.
The Warriors never relinquished the lead in the second half, coasting to victory as they were able to hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold on for an three-point victory 94-91. The win improves Hendrix to 4-10, 2-1 SAA.
"This has been, without a doubt, one of our toughest week any of our teams have had over the years between injuries, and illnesses," said Head Coach
Thad McCracken. "To go through it 2-1 in conference play has been a big boost for us. We were out some key guys this whole week and I couldn't be prouder fo how everyone stepped up and played, especially this afternoon. It was a game of runs and our guys fought incredibly hard for 40 minutes and withstood several strong runs and went on a few of our own. Fortunately we were able to make enough plays down the stretch and hold onto the win."
The Warriors had stellar offensive play from their guards in the win, highlighted by freshman
Kam Brasfield who finished with a 23 points and five assists in the win. Junior
Preston Smith had a great game, finishing with 20 points, going 7-11 from the free throw line.
Sophomore
Eli Fisher also had a solid effort, posting 18 points and one assist.
Jacob Link finished with a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds.
The Warriors where also led by
Michael Calamese who had ten points. Â
Hendrix shot 49.1% from the field, as Hendrix outshot the Vikings from three-point range and the charity stripe in the win.
Hendrix returns to action on Friday when they travel to Birmingham, AL to take on Birmingham Southern. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
