King's Buzzer Beater Gives Warriors Its First-Ever Win Against Bulldogs in Program History

CONWAY, Ark. – After an impressive beat down of Southwestern Saturday in Hendrix's third double-digit victory of the young season, the Warriors hosted Texas Lutheran Sunday afternoon in the final home contest of the 2018 calendar year. After the Warriors held a four-point lead through three quarters, both teams managed to go back and forth for most of the fourth. Leading by one with 4:47 to go in regulation, sophomore guard Vinessa Daniel recorded a 5-2 run for Hendrix single-handedly to grab a three-point lead. Trailing by a pair of points with five ticks left in regulation, Head Coach Drew Gaeng burned one of his two remaining timeouts to call up a play. Out of the timeout, Daniel was fouled two seconds later. After successfully converting the first three throw attempt, Daniel's second one spun in and out but freshman forward Jayla King corralled the ball and shot a 10' mid-range jumper that was nothing but net as the Warriors took the lead by one, 57-56, with 0.6 left on the clock. After a TLU timeout, the Warriors' defense stood tall as Hendrix was able to end the 2018 year with a big 57-56 win; the program's first-ever victory against the Bulldogs (0-3 against TLU heading into Saturday's contest). Hendrix improves to 5-2 on the year; the second straight season the Warriors have started the season out 5-2. In the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 4-5 on the season.
