Danville, KY - The Hendrix men's basketball team took on Sewanee in the Quarterfinals round of the SAA Conference Tournament. Hendrix entered play as the seventh seed while Sewanee took the second seed. The Warriors finished the regular season with a record of 5-20 and a conference record of 3-11.
The Warriors built an early lead in the first half. At the 9:50 minute mark the Warriors led Sewanee by a score of 19-15.
Hendrix took advantage of the Sewanee shooting going cold and maintained their lead throughout the half. With 2:51 left to play in the half Hendrix held the lead 34-29. The Warriors would continue to fight hard holding a 38-36Â lead at the end of the half.
Jacob Link led the team with eight points and
Preston Smith put up seven of his own.
Michael Calamese dished out three assists along with
Kam Brasfield and
Eric Roberts who dished out one each.Â
Sewanee came out firing in the second half. The Tigers built a 54-47 lead mid-way through the second half courtesy of some hot shooting and solid defense.
Hendrix would then put their foot on the gas pedal and never look back beating Sewanee by a score of 69-67. Smith led the team with 17 points and also contributed four rebounds.
Eli Fisher finished the game with 16 points and four rebounds. The Warriors were led on the boards by Link and Roberts who had six and five rebounds respectively.Â
With the win Hendrix advances to the Semifinals round of the SAA Conference Tournament and will face the winner of the Oglethorpe, Millsaps game this Saturday, February 24th, at 6 p.m. EST.Â
