Danville, KY - The Hendrix College men's basketball team competed in the SAA Conference Semifinals round of the conference tournament today taking on the number three seeded Oglethorpe. The Warriors came in as the number seven seed.
Hendrix took control of the game early, jumping out to an early lead on strong offensive and defensive play to go into the half with a nine-point 41-32 half time lead.
Junior
Preston Smith went into the half with a game-high 19 points. Sophomore
Jacob Link had 12 points at the half.
A jumper by Smith early in the second half gave Hendrix their biggest lead (eleven points) of the afternoon as they went up 43-32. Oglethorpe was able to take the lead back for awhile but Hendrix would fight their way back on top, ultimately cruising to a victory (69-65).
Smith recorded a game-high 30 points and one board in the win. Link finished with 14 points, while both
Kam Brasfield and
Eric Roberts finished with nine points.
The Warriors'
Sean Criswell also finished with three points.
Hendrix will next play in the SAA Conference Championship game against Berry. This is the first time in SAA Conference history in any sport that the number seven and eight seeded teams will compete for a conference championship. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. EST.
