Atlanta, GA - The Hendrix College women's basketball team matched up today with Birmingham Southern in the Quarterfinals game of the SAA Conference Tournament. The Warriors came into the game as the number three seed while the Panthers came in as the number six seed.
Hendrix used suffocating defense to hold Birmingham Southern to an 5.9% three-point percentage on the day en route to an impressive 62-51 win.
Hendrix jumped out to an early 16-8 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter and never looked back, holding the Panthers to hard fought scoring opportunities in the remaining three quarters of play.
Freshman
Vinessa Daniel was the leading scorer in the game, finishing with 16 points and three rebounds. Senior and SAA Defensive Player of the Year
Heather Prowse had 12 points, 17 rebounds, a block and a steal in the win. Fellow senior
Madison Martin finished with nine points.
The Warriors where also led by
Leah Boehl who had eight points.
The win improved Hendrix's record to 18-8, 9-5 SAA.
With the win Hendrix will advance to the SAA Conference Tournament Semifinals to take on the #2 seed in Rhodes on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
