Warriors Get Big Conference Win

Mont Berry, GA -  The Hendrix College men's basketball team traveled to face the Berry College Vikings on Sunday afternoon in a SAA Conference match-up. This is the second meeting of the two squads this season with the victory the first time going to HC.

The Warriors came into this big day wanting to gain some winning momentum. Their most recent loss (90-67) to Oglethorpe vaulted Hendrix's conference record to 2-8.

A win this afternoon for Hendrix would provide much-needed good momentum.

The Warriors were also looking to break their current seven-game loosing streak, dating back to a January 12th loss to the Panthers of Birmingham Southern.

The first half began quite slow for both sides, but eventually the Warriors found stride and were able to compete well with the Vikings. Led by junior Preston Smith and Kam Brasfield's nine points each, Hendrix was able to take advantage of a struggling Viking team as they would tie the game up at 44 going into the final 20 minutes of play.

Huge second halves from both squads livened up the competition level in the second stanza. Both teams almost tallied the same amount of points in the final 20 minutes of play with HC holding the one point advantage at 39-38.  Despite the uptick in offense for the Vikings, their poor second half intensity would help Hendrix cruse to the SAA conference victory. With their 83-82 win, the Warriors officially pushed their record to 5-17, 3-8 SAA.

Hendrix was led offensively by a trio of starters who combined for 48 of the team's points on the victorious afternoon: Smith paced all Warriors with his 19 points to go along with his three rebounds, Brasfield chipped in 15 points and six assists, and Eli Fisher's 14 points and one assist complimented the winning formula admirably.

Hendrix will look to keep the wins coming as they host a SAA tilt against the Birmingham Southern Panthers on Friday the 9th.  Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
