Conway, AR -Â The Warriors returned to action Saturday afternoon. The Warriors struggled the last time they hit the field and looked to rebound today. Entering play the Warriors sported a record of 4-11 looking to add some wins with a doubleheader against Grinnell College.
Taylor Barker got the start in game one for the Warriors and they needed him to come up big. Hendrix wasted no time getting the scoring started in game one.
Drew Judson started it off with a single and he advanced to second on a passed ball. Next up was
Josh Walker and he hammered a single which moved Judson to third.
Jake Wiegand would bring home Judson and the Warriors held a 1-0 lead after the bottom half of the second.
The Warriors were back at it in the bottom of the third.
Seth Tucker got it started with a single and advanced to second on a balk. Tucker advanced to third on a groundout and was promptly scored on a
Tanner Cooper RBI single. Judson and Cooper would cross home for two more runs by the end of the inning. Hendrix held a 4-0 lead after the bottom half of the third.
Hendrix added some insurance in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cooper reached on a triple to right center. Judson would hit a sacrifice fly and advanced Cooper home. This gave the Warriors a 5-0 lead entering the top of the sixth.
The Pioneers were unable to get anything going offensively and the Warriors won 5-0.
Barker pitched a gem of a game going the distance and holding the Pioneers to zero runs. Â
Over seven innings Barker gave up zero runs while allowing only six hits and striking out three. He truly came through for Hendrix and picked up the well-deserved win; improving his record to 2-2 on the year.
Walker shined, finishing the game with two hits and two RBIs. Cooper also knocked in a run for the Warriors.
The win improved Hendrix to 5-11 and they looked to keep up the solid play in game two.
Evan Ingram got the ball in game two for the Warriors. After a scoreless first three innings the Grinnell offense went to work first. GC would take the 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
Hendrix would not be satisfied with a loss and turned their bats on next. Wiegand walked and followed that up with advancing to third on a double. Tucker singled to left field bringing home Wiegand and advancing
Sean Dehne.
Jorge Leon then reached on an error and brought home Dehne. The Warriors tied the game up 2-2 after five innings of play.
In the bottom of the sixth the Warriors added three more runs. Judson started it off reaching on an error and he was eventually scored on a single by Wiegand.
The Pioneers scored a run in the top of the seventh courtesy of a single but it would not be enough as they would fall 5-3.
The Warriors claimed victory in this one courtesy of excellent pitching and solid hitting.
Ingram tossed a complete game giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out four. The dominating performance improved his record to 2-1-1 on the season and he now has two of the six Hendrix wins.
Walker had two hits in the game. Wiegand had a hit in the winning effort. Wiegand and Tucker had two and one RBIs respectively.
The win improves the Warriors to 6-11 on the season.
Hendrix returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Grinnell College in another doubleheader at 12 PM.
