Mount Berry, GA -Â The Hendrix College baseball team hit the field in a SAA conference game against the Vikings of Berry College. This was the Warriors third game in a series with Berry and they entered play with a 7-15, 2-6 SAA record.Â
Todays game saw the Vikings get the 16-6 victory.Â
The tone was set by Berry in inning number one as they were able to put across five runs in their half of the inning to take an early 5-0 lead.
Hendrix is not a team that backs down and responded with four runs of their own in the top half of the second inning.Â
Jake Wiegand got the inning going by getting walked.
Layton Burge then reached on a fielder choice with Wiegand out at second.
JR McAuley would get hit by a pitch pushing Burge to second and
Jorge Leon would then get walked loading the bases.
Tanner Cooper came through and drove all three runners in with a double to cut the deficit to 5-3. HC would score one more run in the inning to bring the score to 5-4.
After the Vikings would score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth the Warriors had another chance to even up the score. Down three runs with two outs
Josh Walker lined a single for the Warriors. Wiegand would then get walked advancing Walker to second. Burge would reach on an error bringing home Walker and cutting the HC deficit to 7-5.
After eight runs in the sixth for Berry, the Warriors would add a run of their own in the top of the seventh to cut the BC lead to 15-6.
One more run from BC in the bottom of the eighth inning would seal the deal for the Vikings as they would take the win 16-6.
The Hendrix offense was led by Wiegand who had two hits and a RBI. Cooper also had a strong game tallying one hit and recording three RBIs.
Hendrix gets back to action Tuesday, March 27th as they host the Eagles of Ozarks. First pitch set for 6:00 pm.
