Warriors Lose Heartbreaker to Patriots

CONWAY, Ark. - Following an impressive 6-1 route of MacMurray on Friday, Coach Jeff Trimble and the rest of the Women's Soccer team looked for a victory against the Patriots of University of Texas at Tyler Sunday evening. Following a 1-1 score right at 12 minutes into the match, both teams fought back and forth for the next 60-plus minutes. A score by the Patriots at the 76:58 mark gave Texas-Tyler the 2-1 edge with just over 13 minutes in regulation. Senior Sydney Blevins soon knotted up the game 64 seconds later after senior Evie Cannon's shot was blocked. Blevins found the back of the net from 20 yards out following the miss. After both teams split field possession for most of the overtimes, it was the Patriots who came out with the victory, 3-2, in the second overtime period at the 119:28 mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took less than 10 minutes for freshman Mary Helen VanHoy to record her third goal of the season at the 9:46 mark to put Hendrix on the board, 1-0.
  • A Patriots score at the 12:00 mark and the 76:58 mark helped push Texas-Tyler to a 3-2 lead late.
  • Blevins fires from 20 yards out to knot the game up at 2-all and force bonus soccer.
  • Kiersten Ehler nails the game-winning golden goal at the 119:28 mark for the heartbreaking loss for Hendrix.
  • VanHoy and junior Hagan Griffith each recorded a team-best four shots on the day.
WHAT WAS SAID
"That's a heartbreaking loss," said Coach Trimble. "Having said that I was very, very proud of our girls today. We played with skill, intensity and worked very hard. It was nice to see us take the lead and also be able to come back and tie the game up in the second half. We were all extremely disappointed with the result but that also shows the expectations all the girls have for this program. I have to say one more time how proud I am of the players."
