Another Day, Another Five-Set Conference Road Victory for the Orange and Black

DANVILLE, Kent. - As if a 11-1 overall record and 4-0 Southern Athletic Association record wasn't enough of an impressive start to the 2018 Warrior Volleyball campaign, the Warriors managed to hold off Centre in five sets to improve to 12-1 and 5-0 in SAA play following Sunday's impressive road contest. After leading two sets to none, the Warriors surrendered each of the next two sets 25-21 to the Colonels before hitting .562 in the fifth set en route to its 15-6 set five and match victory.

OF NOTE
- After trailing 21-17 in the opening stanza, sophomore Mallory Carty helped cap off a 8-0 team run with a monster kill that gave the Warriors the 25-21 set victory. Carty finished with three big kills in the 8-0 run.
- Hitting .061 and recording 16 kills, Hendrix won the second set 25-21 as well.
- Hendrix managed to combine for 23 errors and hit below .084 in the third and fourth sets as Centre hung on for two 25-21 set wins.
- Tied up at two sets apiece, the Orange & Black maintained a .562 attacking percentage and recorded just one error en route to a 15-6 fifth set victory which was highlighted by a monster kill from Carty.
- Senior Amber Melcher notched her third double-double of the 2018 season after a a team-best 29-assist and 17-kill performance and was one dig shy of a triple-double. Sophomore Jeanette McGrath pitched in 28 assists as well.
- Sophomore Allison Long, who is currently second in the SAA in attacking percentage, registered a .462 attack percentage against Centre. Junior Kiersten Summers maintained a .357 attack percentage on six kills in three sets.
- The Warriors recorded twice as many kills (75) as the Colonels (35) and finished with 79 total points won compared to 52 by Centre.

WHAT WAS SAID
"I am grateful for the win and how the team fought back from pretty significant deficits but we made way too many errors," said Head Coach Brittany Newberry. "We're ready to get back home and to get in the gym and work on getting better."

UP NEXT
After playing its first four of five SAA matches on the road, Hendrix gears up for a rare non-conference showdown against NCAA Division II foe Southern Arkansas from Grove Gymnasium Tuesday. The Warriors and Muleriders are set to begin play at 6 p.m.
