Division II Foe Southern Arkansas Topples Warriors in AIC Reunion

CONWAY, Ark. - After winning its last seven games in a row, the Warriors saw its longest winning streak since Oct. 2016 come to an end after Southern Arkansas recorded 55 kills and hit .164 on the night en route to its three set to one takedown of Hendrix. Senior Amber Melcher led the way after recording her fourth double-double of the season. Melcher finished with a team-high 20 assists and 12 digs.

OF NOTE
- After the Muleriders took the first set 25-12 and the second 25-22, both teams fought back and forth; recording five lead changes and seven ties following the first 19 total points in the third set.
- Trailing 15-14, a kill by Melcher, attack error by SAU, kill by junior Lauren Dwyer and service ace by sophomore MaKenzie Presley forced a Mulerider timeout. 
- Leading 21-17, sophomore Mallory Carty recorded a powerful Kill to give the Warriors the five-point lead.
- Following a Warrior timeout and leading 24-23, senior Brianna Kelly managed to get record an attack just past the outstreched arms of the Mulerider defender and inside the court of play for the set-clinching point.
- Trailing two sets to one, Hendrix recorded a .070 attacking percentage for the fourth set and would fall in four in Conway, 21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 17-25.
- Dwyer, who continues to lead the conference in kills, finishes with a game-best 17 kills on the night.
- Presley maintained a team-best three service aces while Carty added four blocks.
- Hendrix still maintains a perfect 5-0 conference record; one of two undefeated teams (Berry).


UP NEXT
Following a contest against a NCAA Division II team, the Warriors resume Southern Athletic Association action with a 5-0 team showdown set for Saturday inside the confines of Grove Gymnasium. Hendrix and Berry battle it out at 11 a.m. in a battle of the undefeated among SAA competition.
