No. 23 Berry Takes Down Warriors in Clash of Top Two in SAA

CONWAY, Ark. - In a showdown consisting of the top two teams from the Southern Athletic Association, the Warriors looked to take down the 2017 SAA champs Saturday but ultimately fell in straight sets in Conway after a 32-30 marathon set in the first frame. The Vikings, ranked No. 23 nationally, managed to hit .202 on the day while holding the 12-3, 5-1 SAA Warriors to an .109 attacking percentage and just four team blocks in the setback.

OF NOTE
- An impressive kill by sophomore Allison Long knotted the game up at 20-all in the opening set. Following that, there were eight consecutive ties ultimately resulting in a Berry set win, 32-30.
- Hendrix's lone lead in the set frame came leading 5-4 after a monster kill by Long with an assist from freshman Claire Smith. Berry took the second set, 25-20.
- Berry carved two separate 4-0 runs to record a 25-15 third set victory and straight-set match victory.
- Long, who ranks second in the SAA in attacking percentage, recorded eight kills on 17 total attacks for a .412 attacking percentage on the day.
- Senior Amber Melcher carded her fifth double-double of the season after her 13-dig, 18-assist performance Saturday.
- Smith finished with 13 assists and four digs against the Vikings.
- Junior Lauren Dwyer added a team-high 15 digs and seven assists in the loss.

UP NEXT
While these teams will meet again Oct. 12 in Georgia, the Warriors will remain inside the confines of Grove Gymnasium as Hendrix welcomes in Oglethorpe in a Sunday afternoon SAA contest. First serve is set for noon.
