Men's Soccer Drops SAA Contest to Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - Hendrix men's soccer hit the road for a conference showdown against the Centre Colonels from Danville, Ky. Friday evening. After the Colonels grabbed the early 3-0 lead midway through the first half, Ricky Barrientos accounted for his team-leading fifth score of the year late in the first half but the Warriors fell to Centre, 3-1. With the loss, Hendrix drops to 4-9 on the year with an 0-3 mark versus Southern Athletic Association teams while Centre improves to 9-3-1 on the season and a 2-1 record in SAA play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Centre took the early 1-0 lead 93 seconds into the game.
- The Colonels scored again in the eighth minute and 19th minute as Centre led 3-0 midway through the opening half.
- Ricky Barrientos recorded his team-leading fifth goal in the 44th minute off an assist from Carson Stephenson; his second-ever assist and first of the year. 
- Hendrix trailed 3-1 at the break.
- No one scored in the second half as Hendrix fell to Centre, 3-1.
- The Warriors recorded six shots Friday evening; three that were on goal.
- Barrientos recorded two shots on the night; one on goal while four other Warriors recorded one shot each.
- Josh Neuman recorded nine saves versus the Colonels in 90 minutes of work for Hendrix.

WHAT WAS SAID
"While we are disappointed with the result, we are learning what type of technique, speed of play, tactical awareness and physical play is needed in the SAA," said head coach Matt Kern. "Centre is an NCAA tournament team and has been one of the top teams in our league. We will look to recover on Saturday and have a go at Sewanee on Sunday."

UP NEXT
Hendrix remains on the road, traveling to Sewanee, Tenn. to take on the Sewanee Tigers Sunday at 2 p.m.
