Warriors Prevail Over Millsaps in Final Road Game of the 2019 Regular Season

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - Looking to get back to its winning ways in the final road contest of the 2019 regular season, Hendrix traveled to Jackson, Miss. Saturday to battle the Millsaps Majors. Hendrix got on the scoreboard in a hurry after a blocked punt by Jared Bazley, Miles Thompson found Chad McGonigal one play later for a touchdown. Hendrix led 13-0 at the break and went on to score 20 total points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors picked up its sixth win of the year after a dominant 33-22 win at Millsaps. After the 11-point win, Hendrix improves to 6-3 on the year with a 4-3 mark in Southern Athletic Association play while Millsaps drops to 5-4 on the year with a 3-4 mark in SAA competition. Bazley finished with two blocked punts on the day while Colton Johnson accounted for one as well as the Warriors' defense was magnificent all afternoon long. With one game left on the season, Hendrix is currently in fourth place in the SAA standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Bazley blocked a punt on Millsaps' opening drive, Thompson found McGonigal one play later; PAT was blocked as Hendrix led 6-0 with 12:54 left in the first quarter.
- Millsaps took the lead after scoring on the ensuing drive with 5:03 to go in the first period.
- With 38 seconds to go in the half, Deondre Henry recorded his second rushing touchdown of the year as Hendrix retook the lead, 13-10 and enjoyed that lead at the half.
- The Majors' 34-yard field goal with 6:04 left in the third quarter brought Millsaps within three points, 13-10.
- Henry scored his second rushing touchdown of the day and third of the season early in the fourth quarter as the Warriors held the 20-10 advantage.
- Thompson found Blake Hinton from 10 yards out with 7:07 to go in regulation as the Warriors enjoyed the 26-10 lead from Jackson, Miss.
- After Millsaps scored its second touchdown of the day, Cory McGonigal picked off the Majors' quarterback and returned it 23 yards.
- Kip VanHoose scored one play later, from 39 yards out to put the Warriors up 33-16 with 2:09 to go.
- Millsaps added another touchdown with 37 seconds to go but it was too little, too late as Hendrix picked up the huge 11-point win against the Majors to climb higher in the SAA standings.

OFFENSIVE NOTABLES:
- Thompson finished 16-for-24 for 139 yards and two scores against the Majors.
- VanHoose rushed 24 times for 144 yards and one score while Henry finished with eight rushes for 20 yards and two touchdowns.
- Hinton carded five receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown while Ch. McGonigal recorded two catches for 30 yards and one score.

DEFENSIVE NOTABLES:
- Tanner Hartsfield recorded a team-best seven tackles and one quarterback hurry.
- Anthony Johnson, Matthew Scirto and Mason Adams each accounted for five tackles while Adams recorded one sack for a loss of seven yards and two total tackles for loss.
- Co. McGonigal and Gus Asel recorded the two interceptions for Hendrix Saturday.
- The Warriors allowed just 264 yards of total offense to Millsaps Saturday.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTABLES:
- Bazley tallied two blocked punts and C. Johnson blocked one as well for the Warriors.
- Charles-Antoine Gingras recorded two punts for 62 yards (31.0 average) while Jaxon Sinclair accounted for five punts for 190 yards (38.0 average) which included landing two inside Millsaps' 20-yard line.

The Warriors return home for its final game of the regular season. Hendrix will face the Sewanee Tigers next Saturday at 1 p.m. from Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
