CONWAY - Hendrix will close the regular season SCAC slate on Saturday at Lyon College with a berth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship game on the line. It is the program's first trip to Batesville since 2016.
The Warriors enter Saturday having lost two of their last three contests, including a 24-17 non-conference loss to Rhodes last weekend. Hendrix is 5-3 on the year with a 2-1 record in the league. They currently sit tied for second in the SCAC with Lyon (3-5, 2-1 SCAC), making Saturday's contest a winner-take-all at Bad Boy Mowers Stadium.
History is on Hendrix's side in this in-state matchup. The Warriors have won the first seven games since both schools resurrected their football programs in the mid-2010s, including sweeping Lyon last year in both the regular season and in the inaugural SCAC Championship Weekend at War Memorial Stadium. In the latter matchup,
Jake Blice went 22-for-34 and tossed five touchdowns en route to his first SCAC Offensive Player of the Week award. This season, the junior gunslinger has thrown for 2,372 yards (9th in NCAA) and 21 touchdowns (12th in NCAA). His primary target has been senior wideout
Westin Bruce, who is currently ranks third in all of NCAA Division III with 1,037 yards and 8 touchdowns.
The Warriors' defense will be tasked with stopping Lyon wideout Javarion Williams, who ranks second behind Bruce in the SCAC with 92.0 receiving yards per game. The Scots rank fifth out of the SCAC's six teams in total offense, averaging 311.4 yards per game, while Hendrix tops the SCAC with 440.7 yards per contest. Defensively, Hendrix is allowing 26.4 points per game and 135.5 yards per game on the ground. Senior defensive tackle
Jacob Moody leads the conference in sacks with 4.0. Freshman linebacker
Beckett Moore is coming off the best game of his young career, as he tallied a season-high 17 tackles versus Rhodes last weekend, the highest single-total for a Warrior defender this season.
Hendrix is 26-0-3 all-time versus their in-state foe. The last time these two met in Batesville, the Warriors defeated Lyon 49-14 at Batesville High School in what was the inaugural Battle for Scotzilla. The traveling trophy has since been retired. Saturday will mark Hendrix's first trip to Bad Boy Mowers Stadium, which opened last year. Lyon is 1-6 at their new home over the past two seasons.
Kick-off at Bad Boy Mowers Stadium is set for 1:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on the
Scots Digital Network.
