Dehne, Stoyanow Propel Warriors to Doubleheader Split Against No. 21 Birmingham-Southern Saturday

CONWAY, Ark. –  After falling to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers a couple of times in a mid-week series this week, No. 24 Hendrix faced No. 21 Birmingham-Southern in two games as part of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. In the first-ever Top 25 showdown from Warrior Field, the Panthers outlasted Hendrix, 3-1, in 11 evenings in the opening game before the Warriors bounced back in game two with a 4-1 victory. Taylor Barker picked up the loss in the first game while Kyle Wellman picked up his third victory after throwing one-third of an inning of work to get the win. Hendrix improves to 18-7 on the year with a 5-3 mark in the Southern Athletic Association while BSC goes to 17-7 and 5-3 in conference.
  
HOW THE WARRIORS SCORED:
GAME 1
- 6th - Ford Sherrington homered to left field, RBI.

GAME 2
- 1st - Ford Sherrington reached first on a fielding error by ss, advanced to second on a fielding error by lf, advanced to third; Tanner Cooper scored, unearned.
- 3rd - Sean Dehne scored, unearned.
- 4th - Juan Pablo Leon singled up the middle, RBI, advanced to second; Ford Sherrington scored.
- 4th - Layton Burge grounded out to ss, RBI; Juan Pablo Leon scored.

NOTABLE:
GAME 1
- Sherrington launched his first home run of the season in the sixth for the go-ahead RBI until BSC tied the game at 1-all half an inning later.
- BSC recorded three straight two out hits in the 11th inning while the Panthers scored two and took the 3-1 lead and won by that same score.
- Jack Hodgins got his 7th start of the year; tossed seven and two-third innings of action while striking out eight batters and allowed just one earned run in the outing while throwing 116 pitches.
- Barker pitched the final three and one-third innings of work while picking up his first loss of the season. 
- The Warriors lose its third straight contest; longest losing streak on the season and lose its first opening game of any conference series this season as well.

GAME 2
- The Panthers tallied a pair of fielding errors on one play in the bottom of the first as Hendrix took the quick 1-0 edge.
- After the BSC catcher threw the ball down to third base, the third basemen threw the ball off a Warrior runner, resulting in Dehne scoring for Hendrix.
- An inning later, Ju. Leon carves up a RBI single back up the middle while Burge scores Ju. Leon on a RBI ground out to the short stop as Hendrix cruised to a 4-1 win over No. 21 BSC.
- Andrei Stoyanow recorded his seventh appearance of the year and fifth start; allowed eight hits in four innings of work while allowing just one run.
- Wellman picked up the win, his third of the year while all three have been picked up with Wellman tossing less than a full inning of baseball.
- Dehne went 2-for-2 at the plate including one run and a lead-off triple to start the bottom half of the fifth inning.
- With the win, Hendrix moves into a tie for second place in the SAA standings (tied with BSC) while Berry owns a one-game lead on the Warriors and Panthers.
