SEGUIN, Texas - Looking to ride the momentum of a 28-20 win against Lyon a week ago in the season opener, Hendrix headed far west for a pivotal, non-conference road contest against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs from Seguin, Texas Saturday night. Junior redshirt quarterback
Miles Thompson found senior wide out RP Upshaw on the first offensive play of the game from 79 yards out as Hendrix quickly took the early lead but 14 unanswered points by TLU after another Hendrix score made it a whole new ball game. Trailing 23-17 in the fourth quarter, junior running back
Kip VanHoose scored on third down from a yard out to tie the game. Following a missed extra point attempt, the Warriors recovered a Bulldog fumble less than a minute later to set up senior kicker
Sandy Burks for a game-winning field goal as time would expire. The Warriors managed to sneak away with the 26-23 road victory from Seguin; Hendrix's first win in Seguin and second win in the state of Texas since the program continued again in 2013. Hendrix improves to 2-0 on the season while TLU falls to 0-1 after the loss in its season opener.

WHAT WAS SAID:
"I was really proud of our team tonight," stated an excited head coach
Buck Buchanan. "We fought through a lot of adversity. Our defense didn't play like I would have liked, however they bent but never broke. Holding TLU to field goal tries instead of touchdowns were keys to our victory. The other huge key to victory was our discipline. We kept our composure and continued to fight and took advantage of a lot of penalties by TLU. I was really proud of our players for staying focused on the end goal and not put our team in jeopardy. I think that was a huge step forward from our first week. The offense came up big for us at the end orchestrating a bear, flawless drive to score to tie the game with a little over a minute left to play. Miles looked to be in top form and our offensive line gave him plenty of time to make throws. The receiver corps had guys step up and make plays and we are going to have to keep seeing new faces in that lineup make plays as we go through the year. Adonnis made a hustle play be getting on the fumble at the end and Kip made a big run to get us set up for the game winner. Sandy said to me on the sideline, "Coach if you put me back in I'll win the game." We actually fought until the last second and Sandy totally redeemed himself and nailed the game winner."
UP NEXT:
The Warriors enjoy a bye week next week before remaining on the road with a pivotal matchup against Birmingham-Southern Sept. 28 to open up the SAA portion of the season.
