WHAT WAS SAID:
"I was really proud of our team today," said a happy head coach
Buck Buchanan following the 34-24 conference-opening road win. "We battled a really good BSC squad. It was a back and forth game and we earned our victory. It was a great job by our offensive line all day to put hats on hats and allow VanHoose to showcase his ability; the junior gave everything he had today. The biggest play was probably the 74-yard touchdown with a minute to go in the first half when we caught them a little off guard by running it and Kip made them pay in space. It was also great to have Hinton back in the lineup and he was an immediate impact from the first series. Our offense averaged close to 10 yards per play and big credit to Coach
Russ Phillips for putting together a great plan of attack and Thompson for executing!
Our defense did a great job of never backing down and coming up with some great stops. We had a tough task to slow down their really good tailback while also keeping their quarterback from taking over the game. We did a great job of adjusting during the game and putting ourselves in a position to win in the fourth quarter. Our defensive line consistently put pressure on at the end of the game keeping them from being able to throw it deep and the few throws they had our secondary did a great job of breaking up.
Special teams was great again as all but one kickoff coverage put us in good starting position and we forced their kickoff to kick it short. Burks was great again and continues to impress with his kicking especially in the face of constant pressure today. Antoine-Gingras and
Braden Shaffer earn possibly the "play of the game" with Antoine-Gingras' punt inside the one-yard line downed by Shaffer at the end of the game forcing them to have to go the whole field for their last drive.
Overall, our team continues to play together and feed off each other whether it is to cap off momentum or to pick each other up when we fall short and those are things you definitely have to do to win on the road. Good is great but better is possible, we are looking forward to going back to work and continuing to get better."
