Volleyball Sweeps Third-Straight Opponent Sunday

CONWAY, Ark. - After recording back-to-back sweeps Saturday against Rhodes and Howard Payne in the 2019 Hendrix Invitational, the Warriors battled Huntingdon Sunday in the final game of the weekend-long tournament. The Warriors cruised past the Hawks (25-13, 25-16, 25-20) to improve to 7-2 on the year while picking up their third sweep in less than 36 hours. Lauren Dwyer nearly recorded another double-double after a game-high 20-dig and eight-kill performance. Hendrix improves to 7-2 on the season with the conference portion of the season quickly approaching while Huntingdon drops to 6-8 after the three-set loss to Hendrix and the five-set loss to Rhodes Sunday evening. - Trailing 2-0 in the second period, a kill from Maddie Tovar, back-to-back kills from Dwyer and a service ace from Molly Kingston helped ignite a 6-0 Hendrix run.
- Tovar and Kiersten Huitt recorded back-to-back-to-back kills at the end of the second set; part of a 5-0 Hendrix run that gave the Warriors the 25-16 set victory to take a 2-0 set lead.
- After a 5-0 Huntingdon run, the Warriors carded a 4-0 and a 6-0 run to take the set (and match), 25-20.
- Tovar recorded a season-best and team-high 12 kills Sunday against the Hawks with a pair of block assists too while hitting .458.

WHAT WAS SAID
"
It was great to be able to wrap up preseason at home in front of our amazing fans and Hendrix family," stated Coach Newberry after the sweep. "The composure and confidence this group showed this weekend is exactly what I hoped to see going into full SAA play next weekend. We need to be more disciplined in some areas but I'm proud of their determination to sweep the weekend."
