Volleyball Picks Up Fifth-Straight Sweep; Improves to 2-0 in SAA Action

CONWAY, Ark. - In a matchup of two teams sitting in first place in the Southern Athletic Association standings, at 1-0, the Sewanee Tigers traveled to Conway for a classic SAA showdown against the Warriors Saturday afternoon. After holding the Tigers' attack line to .000 through the first two sets, the Warriors managed to win the crazy third set, 27-25 to sweep the Tigers (25-19, 25-22, 27-25). With the win, Hendrix picks up its sixth sweep of the season including four in a row and improves to 8-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark in conference action. The Sewanee Tigers drop to 8-3 and 1-1 in SAA play. Lauren Dwyer picked up her third double-double of the year after accounting for 13 digs and 10 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dwyer started the match with a kill on the first point; Warriors led 7-2 before Sewanee called a timeout.
- Sewanee went on a pair of 3-0 runs and a 4-0 one but the Warriors five of the last six points to take the first set, 25-19, as Dwyer capped the set off with another kill.
- Hendrix won the first two points of the second set before Maddie Tovar netted a powerful kill; Warriors led 3-0 early.
- Tied at 17, Dwyer recorded a kill right before Kiersten Huitt and Claire Smith recorded a block assist to grab the two-point lead; Warriors hung on for the 25-22 set two win.
- Trailing 2-1 in the third set in what was Sewanee's first lead of the afternoon, the Warriors recorded a 4-0 lead to take a 5-2 advantage early in the third frame.
- Sewanee recorded a 5-0 run to tie the set at 24 before Hendrix won the final two points thanks to a kill by Tovar and a block assist by Tovar and Mallory Cart; winning for the eighth time this season.
- Tovar tied Dwyer for the game-high of 10 kills while Carty and Sadie Walker accounted for seven kills each.
- Jeanette McGrath also tallied 13 digs (just like Dwyer) while MaKenzie Presley added 10 digs in the win.
- Carty finished the day with a .417 attack percentage while Tovar tallied a .238 one.

WHAT WAS SAID
"We did get the sweep, but there were a lot of unforced errors that we need to work hard on avoiding," stated head coach Brittany Newberry. "Sewanee has some aggressive servers and we need to do better serving aggressively. We will continue to get better. Excited to strive for that tomorrow against Centre."
