Tenacious Defense Helps Warriors Hold Off Scots to Open 2019 Season

CONWAY, Ark. - Looking to keep the undefeated streak in tact against the Lyon Scots, the Hendrix Warriors opened the 2019 season Saturday night from Young-Wise Memorial Stadium in Conway against the Scots. After Lyon grabbed the 3-0 lead in the second period, Kip VanHoose scored from 12 yards out to give Hendrix the lead and the Warriors would not look back as the home team prevailed, 28-20, in front of over 1,100 energetic fans Saturday night. With the win, Hendrix improves to 24-0-3 all-time against the Scots and 1-0 in 2019 while also keeping "Scotzilla" in Conway once again after the Warriors won the annual "Battle for Scotzilla" rivalry game once again.

WHAT WAS SAID:
"Coming into the game, Lyon was going to take away a lot that we were going to do down the field," stated head coach Buck Buchanan. "I thought we did good making adjustments. I wasn't too happy at the end when we made a turnover when we should've just ran out the clock. I felt like we played better against (Lyon) than last year. Lyon did some good coaching tonight. It was a good play someone other than ourselves tonight."

UP NEXT:
Hendrix hits the road to take on Texas Lutheran from Seguin, Texas Sept. 14. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The Warriors are 1-1 all-time against the Bulldogs; falling short in 2018 (14-19).
