CONWAY, Ark. - The Warriors advance 2-0 in Southern Athletic Association Conference play and 5-1-2 on the season after shutting out Millsaps, their second-best start in program history.
Yesterday the Warriors traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to take on the Millsaps Majors to try and get their second conference win and extend their three-game win streak. The Warriors came out with lots of offensive intensity, getting two corner kicks in the first five minutes. Senior captain and center back Zack Roberts recorded the first shot for the Warriors and was followed by Holt Bliss. The Warriors didn't give up a shot until the 18th minute but quickly picked up their attack with Roberts getting another shot and Austin Pettigrew adding another. The Warriors had some offensive substitutions to get fresh legs in on the attack and before the half ended Roberts, Jake Nelson, and Omar Pelayo each added a shot for the Orange and Black. Right before the half ended, Millsaps had their second scoring opportunity but the shot was saved by James Leone.
Coming into the second half, the Warriors took two quick shots from Griffin McKay and Bliss. In the 55th minute, Kristan Reed was able to put one away for Hendrix with an assist from Mason Reid. The Warriors kept their attack up, taking a few more shots and putting in fresh legs to maintain their intensity. With four minutes left in the game, Kristan Reed was able to put another one in for the Warriors to solidify the win with an assist from freshman Joseph Avila.
The Warrior defense also put up an amazing performance, only allowing two shots the entire game, both of which were in the first half. The Orange and Black totaled 13 shots and James Leone recorded his fourth shutout of the year placing him 21st in the country and third in conference for total shutouts. The assist from Mason Reid was his third of the year, ranking him fifth in conference and 173rd nationally for total assists, a spot he shares with teammate Holt Bliss.
