CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix entered the weekend undefeated in the SAA and joint-top of the league, having defeated Birmingham-Southern (2-1) and Millsaps (2-0) in their first two conference matches. Their 2-0 start to conference play marked the best start to a season in at least the last 10 years.
After two nervy matches this weekend, that best-ever start has continued.
The Warriors defeated Sewanee 2-1 on Friday, with freshman
Jensen Pechar netting the winner with less than two minutes remaining. The Tigers had taken the lead early in the first half, before Pechar equalized from the spot early in the second half in a match that saw both teams register 10+ shots on target.
On Sunday afternoon, Hendrix put their undefeated record on the line versus the Centre Colonels. For the second-consecutive match, the Warriors registered 10 or more shots on frame, but they had to wait until the 72nd minute to find the winner, with
Charlie Mata tapping in off a
Holt Bliss knockdown from a corner. Life was easy for goalkeeper
James Leone, as Centre were unable to put a shot on goal the entire afternoon. This continues what has been an excellent defensive start to the season for the Warriors, as they exit this weekend with a +5 goal differential in conference play.
Hendrix looks to continue their impressive start to conference play in Georgia next week with matches versus Oglethorpe (10/14) and Berry (10/16).
