Conway, Ark. - Tyler Deithloff and
Colten Berry finished with double-doubles, and
Daniel Cobb exploded for a career-high 17 points as the Hendrix Warriors defeated the Ozarks Eagles 83-80 on Friday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium.
Ozarks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but a
Tyler Deithloff three ball kicked off a 19-2 run to give Hendrix some breathing room. The Warriors led by as many as 13 points in the first half and went into halftime with a 45-37 lead.
A back-and-forth affair in the second half saw the Eagles tie the game at the 8:28 mark before an old-fashioned 3-point play from Deithloff gave Hendrix the lead back.
Sephfan Tabe nailed a three ball with 00:34 remaining to give Ozarks a 80-78 lead, only to be answered by a
Daniel Cobb long ball with 00:15 left.
Colten Berry came up with the crucial rebound off Kamren Roelke's missed floater, before Cobb sank two from the stripe to put a stamp on the Warriors' first win of the season.
The Warriors were 29-66 from the field (43.9%) and were 9-24 (37.5%) from behind the arc, while outscoring the Eagles 36-32 in the paint. Hendrix was massive on the boards, grabbing 46 total rebounds to Ozarks' 26.
Drew Mayo notched a career-high 10 points in just 13 minutes of action.
Deithloff and Berry were dominant, putting in 16-12 and 12-11 efforts respectively.
There is little time for Coach
Thad McCracken's squad to celebrate the win, as they host the UT-Dallas Comets in the Grove Gymnasium tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is at 1:00 PM CT with live coverage on the Warriors Sports Network.
