Warriors Beat the Blazers in Jackson, Mississippi

CONWAY, Ark. - Last night the Warriors traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to take on the Belhaven Blazers and play their second away game of the season.

The Blazers earned a quick corner in the first minute and took the first shot. However, in the 6th minute, Madison Lampkin scored the game's first goal with an assist from Emily Seymour. Belhaven took another shot trying to tie up the game but the Warriors answered back with four more. In the 27th minute, Madison Lampkin scored her second goal of the game off of a corner kick taken by Camy McKenzie. Before the end of the half, each team took one more shot on goal.

To begin the second half, the Blazers came out strong, taking a few shots and earning a corner which they were able to capitalize on. However, Belhaven immediately gave up a penalty kick allowing Camy McKenzie to put the Warriors up 3-1. In the 69th minute, Belhaven answered back with their second goal. With neither team scoring again, the game ended 3-2 in favor of the Warriors.

Camy McKenzie scored her second game-winning goal of the season, placing her 64th nationally and second in the conference. The three goals for the Warriors added to their total goals so far on the season of 15, placing Coach Trimble's team 70th nationally and second in the conference for goals. Further, the Orange and Black won their seventh game, making their overall record 7-2 placing them 43rd in the country and second in the conference for win-lose-tie percentage. Elisabeth Caton Nelson had another great performance in goal, making three saves to keep her number one place in the conference and 22nd nationally for a save percentage of 90.5%.

Coach Jeff Trimble said after the game "We faced our first road game in a while, we played in high winds and we played our first game on turf. We knew it would be a challenge and I was proud the girls stepped up. We had the wind against us in the second half and it made the final 45 minutes very challenging. It was good to have Madi get a couple of goals, she has been working hard to get her first college goal and tonight she got two".

The Warriors will be headed back to Mississippi on Saturday for their second game of Southern Athletic Association play as they face the Millsaps Majors and kick-off will begin at 12 pm CST.
