CONWAY, Ark. - Last night the Warriors won their season opener in Texas against the McMurry War Hawks.
The Warriors began the game with possession and scored the first goal of the game right around the 27th minute, less than a minute after Mason Reid had a shot on goal. The goal went in the upper left 90 after an assist by freshman defender Holt Bliss and sophomore Mason Reid that was headed in by freshman forward Jensen Pechar. The War Hawks answered back in the 29th minute with an upper right 90 finish. Going into halftime the game was tied up 1-1. In the 65th minute, Jensen Pechar scored his second goal of the game off a header assisted by defender Ethan Nelson and Mason Reid. The final goal of the game came in the 88th minute unassisted by junior Wyeth McKean.
Coach Matt Kern said "I was really happy for the group to open with a good win on the road. The first half was a bit hectic for both teams, but when the game settled it it was enjoyable to watch. Two well taken headers from Jensen, and a nice finish from Wyeth to make it three. James Leone and Zack Roberts organized the defense well. Looking forward to a tough test on Sunday against UT Dallas".
The Warriors will be back in action on Sunday in Texas at 2:30 pm CST as they take on the UT Dallas Comets.
