Conway, Ark. - Hendrix mounted an epic comeback over Sewanee on Saturday after falling behind two sets to none Grove Gymnasium to win 3-2.
The Warriors entered the match on the heels of last weekend's split versus Oglethorpe and Berry, which saw them maintain their spot in the top four of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) standings with just two matches remaining.
Brittany Newberry's side welcomed the Tigers to Conway seeking revenge after Sewanee swept Hendrix 3-0 at Juhan Gymnasium back on Sept. 30.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair, with the Warriors fending off set point twice before Sewanee secured the set-winning point to take it 25-23.
The Tigers took the second set 25-18 to set up an opportunity for another sweep, but Hendrix responded by winning the third set 25-22.
With newfound life, the Warriors gained more of a foothold in the match and took the fourth set 25-20 to stretch the match to five sets.
Both teams traded points in the winner-take-all set until a three-point Hendrix run midway through gave them a 10-7 lead. They would then take five of the next eight points to clinch the win and their largest comeback victory of the season to date.
The duo of
Camryn Kennedy and
Camryn Presley came up big once again as they combined for 29 kills with 15 and 14, respectively.
Loren Payne and
Perri Evans each recorded 11 kills, while
Riley Brady had a career day with 10 kills.
Kyler Greenlee and
Adilynn Henry combined for 56 assists with 29 and 27, respectively.
Sam Friedl and Presley each contributed 2 service aces.
The win takes Hendrix to 11-11 (7-6 SAA). They have the same conference record as Sewanee entering the final SAA matchday of the season, although the Tigers currently edge out the Warriors for third in the standings on a tiebreaker.
Hendrix will host Centre (17-7, 11-2 SAA) tomorrow for their 2023 SAA regular season finale. The match is set for 12:00 PM at Grove Gymnasium.
