Warriors Split Weekend at Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic

Jackson, Miss. - The Hendrix Warriors traveled to Jackson, Miss. to take on Centenary and Austin College as part of the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic.

Hendrix dropped Saturday's contest to Centenary 80-69, but rebounded to defeat Austin College 71-66 the following day.

Five Warriors finished in double-figures in Saturday's loss. Riley Brady led all scorers with a career-high 14 points and 11 boards. Simone Shields, Megan Gray, Ava Knoedl, and Shelby Heil each recorded 10 points.

The Warriors got off to a slow start on Sunday, with the 'Roos going on a 15-0 run to begin the contest. They would find their footing in the second quarter, shooting over 56% from the field, and went into the halftime interval trailing 37-31.

Hendrix continued its fine shooting form in the second half. They averaged just over 41% from the field over the final two quarters and were 12-16 from the stripe down the stretch.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Warriors. Riley Brady's bucket at 7:52 tied the affair at 52-52, and Simone Shields' layup just a minute later gave the Warriors their first lead of the afternoon.

With 2:10 to play, the Warriors trailed 61-60, and responded with a 11-point flurry to close out the final two minutes and secure the win after a remarkable comeback.

Simone Shields led all scorers with 19 points. Ava Knoedl backed that up with a career-high 18 points. Riley Brady recorded 11 points after notching a career-high 14 points versus Centenary, and was two boards short of her second double-double in as many days.

The weekend split improves Hendrix to 2-3 on the year. They have won two of their last three and will stay on the road to take on in-state foe Lyon College on Thursday, November 26. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM in Batesville.
