Warriors Suffer Heartbreak Loss in Shootout with Lyon

Batesville, Ark. - Hendrix fell 93-90 to the Lyon Scots at Becknell Gymnasium on Thursday night in a back-and-forth shootout.

The 90 points was the most the Warriors have scored in a contest since Jan. 14, 2022 when they put up 99 at Birmingham-Southern.

Simone Shields led all scorers with a season-high 22 points. This was Shields' third consecutive game finishing in double-figures, and she has posted double-figures in all but one game to start the season.

Riley Brady recorded a career-high 18 points and was one board shy of a double-double. The freshman is averaging 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds through her first four games.

Ava Knoedl and Shelby Heil also finished in double-figures with 15 points and 13 points, respectively. The former was 4-5 on 3PT attempts, which set a new season-high for 3-point field goals made in a game.

After surrendering a 10-2 run to start the game, Hendrix fought back to take a 23-20 lead after a Natalie Edmonson three-pointer at 8:20 in the second quarter. The Warriors would go into the halftime break trailing 44-41 after an explosive first half of offense.

Th third quarter belonged to the Scots, and they lead by as many as 11 with 4:00 left in the period. Hendrix responded and was able to trim the Scots' lead to 7 heading into the final quarter.

With 7:40 left in the fourth, Shields' drained a jumper that helped kick-start an 8-2 Hendrix run that was capped by a Brady three-pointer to give the Warriors an 83-82 lead heading into the final stretch.

Lyon retook the lead with just under two minutes to play and were able to keep Hendrix at arms length from there on out, with the Warriors unable to generate a final chance to tie the game at the end.

The loss drops the Warriors to 2-4 on the year, and they will return home for a lengthy break before reuniting with Lyon on Dec. 15 at Grove Gymnasium.
