Warriors Drop Rematch to Crusaders

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix fell 79-70 to the Dallas Crusaders on Wednesday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium to cap their winning streak at two.

The Warriors were without three starters in their rematch with Dallas after defeating the Crusaders back on Nov. 13 in Irving, and while Thad McCracken's squad got several notable contributions off the bench, it would not be enough to overcome a strong performance from the away side.

Luke Patton was one rebound away from his first career double-double after notching a career-high 15 points.

Dallas started off on the front foot by scoring the game's first 7 points before Daniel Cobb's long ball ended the Crusaders' hot start.

The Warriors would respond with several key shots and defensive stops, and took their first lead of the contest with a Drew Mayo three-pointer to make it 21-20 just over halfway into the first half.

Colin Scifres' long ball just seconds later built Hendrix's lead up to four, but Dallas would answer back by scoring nine of the next eleven points, and went into the halftime interval with a 35-33 lead.

Fatigue began to plague the short-handed Warriors in the second half, and Dallas would lead by as many as 15 with just over nine minutes left to play in the game.

Jonathan Ryan's steal and layup on the ensuing fast-break brought Hendrix to within 5 with 1:52 to play, but it would be the closest the Warriors got in the waning minutes as Dallas held on to secure the win.

Ryan and Caleb Squires both finished in double-figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Hendrix shot 32.8% from the field and just 25.9% from 3PT while knocking down 20-of-25 free throw attempts.

The loss drops the Warriors to 3-7 (0-1 Southern Athletic Association), and they will have a week's rest before heading to Clarksville on Dec. 30 to take on in-state foe Ozarks.
