Conway, Ark. - The Hendrix Warriors fell to 94-45 #19 Illinois Wesleyan at Grove Gymnasium on Friday afternoon in their penultimate non-conference matchup of the 2023-24 season.
The Warriors started out hot, scoring 14 of the game's first 18 points to jump out to a 14-4 run early with
Simone Shields and
Ava Knoedl knocking down three-pointers to kick start the run.
But Hendrix struggled to maintain that form afterwards, and turnovers would plague Coach
Drew Gaeng's side for the rest of the game. Illinois Wesleyan responded with a 21-0 run to end the first quarter with a 25-14 lead.
A persistent, aggressive defensive effort from the Titans proved to be too much to overcome for the Warriors for the following three quarters, with Hendrix surrendering possession on 29 occasions in the first half alone.
Shields led the Warriors with 9 points. Knoedl and
Riley Brady each finished with 8 points, with the latter grabbing 11 boards to boot. It was her second consecutive game finishing with 10+ rebounds, and her fourth of the season.
The loss drops the Warriors to 2-8 on the season, and they will now hit the road to Clarksville for a reunion with in-state foe Ozarks. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM tomorrow from Mabee Gymnasium.
