Birmingham, Ala. - Hendrix hit the road for its first pair of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matches this weekend against Millsaps and Birmingham-Southern (BSC) after winning their conference opener versus Rhodes last weekend.
The Warriors began with Millsaps at the Hangar Dome on Saturday and made it a quick affair, sweepeing the Majors in straight sets.
Perri Evans led all eligible players with 10 kills on the afternoon, while
Kyler Greenlee and
Adilynn Henry combined for 35 assists. The Warriors got a boost from service aces as
Sam Friedl and
Hailey Gripka combined for 5.
Hendrix then took its 2-0 start in conference to perennial power BSC.
The Warriors quickly found themselves down two sets to none, but Brittany Newberry's side responded emphatically to take the third set 25-16.
The fourth set was a marathon, as the two teams traded points after Hendrix fought off two match points. The Warriors were finally able to clinch the fourth set 30-28 after struggling to see off the set with multiple set point opportunities and set up the all-important fifth set.
BSC took 5 of the first 7 points in the fifth set and were able to keep Hendrix at arms length for the remainder of the set to seal the match.
Hendrix exits the weekend 6-6 (2-1 SAA) and will remain on the road this week as they head to Sewanee and Centre.
