Conway, Ark. - A week after dropping their season opener to Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), the Hendrix Warriors head to Marshall, Texas to take on East Texas Baptist (ETBU) in what will be the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
Despite the loss, Hendrix will roll into Ornelas Stadium with confidence, having seen some bright spots on both sides of the ball.
Jacob Buniff is coming off a stellar debut after throwing for 442 yards and 4 TDs and was 38/45 passing. The sophomore was ranked as the fourth most efficient passer in all of NCAA Division III in Week 1.
One of Buniff's favorite targets on Saturday was
Christian Gadison. The senior from Bedford, Texas caught 15 balls for 160 yards and 2 TDs.
The Blackshirt Warrior defense held firm versus an explosive WashU offense, holding the Bears to just 16 first downs and under 400 yards of total offense.
ETBU is coming off a 34-14 loss to NAIA foe Louisiana Christian (LC). The Tigers held LC to under 100 yards passing, but gave up 238 yards on the ground. ETBU netted 287 yards of offense on 74 snaps.
This is Calvin Ruzicka's first year in charge of ETBU after former head coach Brian Mayper retired. Ruzicka previously served as the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach and had done so since 2018. Prior to coming to University Hill, Ruzicka spent 17 years at Cedar Hill High School, where he won Texas state championships in 2006, 2013, and 2014 and was state runner-up in 2012.
