It was a hard fought contest tonight in Grove Gymnasium, but the Hendrix Warriors fell to the Birmingham-Southern Panthers by a final score of 72-69.
What would resemble a classic Mike Tyson boxing match from his heyday, the Warriors and Panthers exchanged blows throughout the 1st Quarter, with the Panthers ending the quarter with the lead by a score of 17-15.
Foul trouble would show its ugly head early in the game, helping the Panthers lead by as much as 15, but the Warriors would fight till the final whistle, with 5 lead changes throughout the night. The Warriors finally started finding their groove in the 4th, shooting 59% from the floor, but free throws were the kryptonite of the Warriors tonight as Hendrix shot 64% from the line.
With 5:54 left in the game, the Panthers owned a 10 point lead, but the Warriors fought to make it a 61-62 ballgame with 2:11 in the game thanks to a basket by the talented Freshman Riley Brady. The Warriors would stay within arms reach, but would be unable to turn the tide, thanks to late free throws for Birmingham-Southern.
Ava Knoedl led the Warriors in the scoring category with 16, while Riley Brady added 15 in the matchup. Megan Gray had 12 points off the bench, with 5 rebounds as well.
The loss drops the Warriors to 2-13 (0-4 SAA), as they set to host Millsaps this Sunday to conclude their weekend homestead. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM CT at Grove Gymnasium. Can't make it? We have you covered, watch live on the Warrior Sports Network.
