Football Falls at Millsaps

Jackson, Miss. - The Hendrix dropped to 3-5 on the season after their fourth-consecutive defeat, the latest being a 27-26 loss to Millsaps on Saturday afternoon at Harper-Davis Field.

Hendrix opened the game with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that was capped by a Jacob Buniff scramble for the game's opening score.

Millsaps would tie the contest at 7-7 and looked to be in position to take the lead, before the Majors were picked off in the endzone by Chris Bell, who recorded his second interception in as many games. After the two teams traded possessions, Buniff connected with Westin Bruce on a 72-yard catch-and-run score to give Hendrix the lead back. The ensuing extra point failed.

Millsaps responded with a touchdown of their own and took the lead with a successful extra point.

The Majors opened the second half with a 15-play, 72-yard scoring drive to take a 20-13 lead. They would extend that lead late in the third quarter with another touchdown.

With 10:59 remaining in the contest and Hendrix in the red area, Buniff checked the ball down to Auvic White on 3rd and 10 and White did the rest, scampering 17 yards to get Hendrix back on the board and cut Millsaps' lead to 7.

The Warriors forced a three-and-out on Millsaps' next possession to give the ball back to their offense. On 3rd and 2 from their own 32, Buniff and Kanyn Utley connected on a 68-yard touchdown as Hendrix looked set to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter. However, the ensuing extra point was blocked, leaving the Warriors trailing by one point.

Hendrix's defense held the Majors on back-to-back possessions as the Warriors searched for the winning score, but it was to no avail. Millsaps was eventually able to wind the clock down on their final possession to seal the 27-26 victory.

Offensively, Utley and Bruce finished with over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown apiece. Buinff tallied 355 yards with 3 passing touchdowns.

Defensively, Ryan Maxwell, Jaden Davis, and Bell each recorded a pass breakup. Tristian Johnson recorded a solo sack, while Nate Hahn and Brayden Bice combined for a sack.

Hendrix (3-5, 1-4 SAA) now returns to Conway for the home finale as they host the Trinity Tigers next Saturday at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
