Warriors' Defense Shines in Losing Effort

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix was unable to put an end to its conference losing streak on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Trinity 26-7 at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium in their 2024 home finale.

The Tigers drove 60 yards on 7 plays on the game's first possession to take a 7-0 lead.

The two teams traded possessions for the rest of the first quarter before Trinity got on the board again early in the second quarter with a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown. Hendrix finally found the end zone late in the second quarter as Jacob Buniff found Parker Turley in the end zone to cap off a 7 play, 71-yard drive. It would be the last time that either team found the end zone.

Trinity took a 17-7 lead into the half after nailing a 39-yard field goal on the stroke of halftime.

Hendrix held the Tigers to just 9 points in the second half, but struggled to move the ball themselves in the final 30 minutes. The Warriors were only able to cross the 50-yard line once in the second half, and saw their best chance to score squandered when Buniff was picked off at Trinity's 28-yard line to kill the drive.

Lost in the scoreline was a terrific performance by the Warriors' defense. Trinity was limited to 288 yards of offense after entering the day as the Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) top offense. Hendrix held the Tigers to 89 yards rushing, which is the first time all season that Trinity rushed for under 100 yards.

The Warriors sacked Trinity five times. Nathan Hahn and Ryan Elrod both recorded a solo sack and combined for another. Sam Spurlock notched his first career sack for a loss of 11 yards. Chris Bell and Ryan Maxwell each had a key pass breakup in the endzone to help hold the Tigers to field goals.

Hahn and Jaden Davis celebrated Senior Day with 6 tackles each to lead all participants.

Hendrix (3-6, 1-5 SAA) now hits the road to close out the 2024 season as they head to Tennessee to square off with the Sewanee Tigers. Kick-off at Historic Hardin-McGhee Field is set for 1:00 PM.
