Danville, Ky. - Hendrix is playing their best volleyball of the 2024 season and continued their upward trajectory as they dispatched Millsaps 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium to advance to the semifinals of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament.
The Warriors entered Friday's quarterfinal having been swept by the third-seeded Majors in the regular season, but the script was reversed on Friday as
Brittany Newberry's squad rallied from a second-set loss to take the subsequent two sets and end the match in four.
The two sides traded points in the opening set, but a five-point swing with the set at 14-13 gave the Warriors a six-point lead and enough cushion to breeze to a 25-18 victory. Millsaps responded to take the second set and even the match at 1-1.
With the match in the balance and the score even at 22-22 in the third set, Hendrix benefited from a couple attacking errors before
Riley Brady clinched the set with one of her two service aces of the afternoon.
The Warriors opened the fourth set with a 7-2 run, but Millsaps would come roaring back to tie the set at 18-18. But a Major service error would kick-start a 6-0 scoring run for the Warriors to give them match point. Millsaps was able to fend off the Orange and Black for a couple points, before Brady shut the door on any comeback with her second-consecutive set-clinching point to send the Warriors to the semifinals.
Ana Bastos led a well-rounded Warrior attack with 12 kills, while
Mariana Leite and
Camryn Kennedy each recorded 11 kills.
Mary Addisyn Stubbs tallied 22 dig and a career-high 6 service aces after being named All-SAA with Bastos and Brady earlier in the week.
Hendrix will face the second-seeded Berry Vikings tomorrow evening with the winner facing either #1 Centre or #4 Rhodes in the championship match on Sunday.
