Conway, Ark. - It was a tale of two halves on Saturday as Hendrix suffered a fifth-consecutive defeat in a 94-70 loss to the University of Texas-Dallas (UTD) at Grove Gymnasium.
The Warriors (2-10) hung tough with UTD in the opening 20 minutes as the two teams traded baskets. After the Comets started the game with a couple of triples,
Beau Kronenberger answered with two of his own to help Hendrix keep pace. UTD built up a lead as large as 9 with 7:49 left in the first half before the Warriors went on a 6-0 scoring run, jump-started by a
Sky Tschurr three-ball, to trim that lead to 3. A couple
Tyler Deithloff free throws with under 30 seconds to play pulled the Comets to within one point, but UTD would close the half with a layup at the buzzer to take a 40-37 lead into halftime.
From there, the wheels fell off for Hendrix as UTD went on to outscore the home team 57-33 over the final 20 minutes.
The Comets outrebounded Hendrix 53-27 on the boards, with 27 of those 53 rebounds on the offensive end to help spur 23 second chance points.
Kronenberger finished the game with 20 points, two shy of his career-mark that he set versus Huntingdon earlier in the week. He is averaging 19 points per game over his last three games.
Deithloff finished with 19 points and 5 boards. It was the seventh-consecutive game that he has finished in double-figures, and he is averaging 14 points per game on the year.
Carson Bower contributed 12 points. Saturday's game and Thursday's game versus Lyon marked the second time this season that Bower has scored 10+ points in back-to-back games.
The Warriors will return to Grove Gymasium after Christmas to host in-state foe Ozarks. Tip-off at Grove Gymnasium is set for 6:00 PM on December 30.
