Baseball Drops Two to Berry

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix lost both games of its Friday doubleheader to the Berry Vikings on Friday evening at Warrior Baseball Field.

Game 1 (L, 11-3)
The Warriors plated the first two runs of the game in the 1st. Drake Job got the scoring started with an RBI ground-out to third base to score Zach Marriott. Adam Bland was later driven in by an Owen Shaw single to centerfield.

Berry would then score seven unanswered runs, before Shaw singled to right field in the 6th inning to score Hogan Ralston and cut the Viking lead to 8-3.

That would be all the Warriors could muster in Game 1 as Berry tacked on four more runs over the last three innings to seal out the Game 1 win.

Bryson Bales (L, 2-2) was the pitcher of record, surrendering four runs on six hits with three strikeouts, with only three of those runs being earned.

Shaw led the Warriors with two hits and two RBIs. Bland, Job, and Joseph Watts all recorded one hit.

Game 2 (L, 8-5)
Hendrix once again drew first blood, this time off a Bland single to left field to score Marriott after the latter led off the 1st with a double to center.

Berry responded with a six-spot in the 2nd to take a 6-1 lead, but Griffin Baird singled to right center in the home half of the inning to score Ian Guthrie. Watts then sent a sacrifice fly out to left field to drive in Ralston.

Shaw doubled to left field in the 3rd to score Marriott and cut Berry's lead to two, but the Warriors left a man stranded after having two in scoring position.

The Vikings scratched two more across in the 4th for an 8-4 lead. Bland led off the 7th with a triple to right center, and was subsequently brought in by Job on an RBI ground-out. But the last two Warrior hitters were retired to blunt the comeback effort.

David Blackburn (L, 3-2) was the pitcher of record in Game 2 after going the distance, surrendering eight runs on thirteen hits with four strikeouts in 7.0 IP of work.

Up Next: Hendrix will look to steal one from the Vikings tomorrow after dropping the series. The two teams currently sit tied for second in the SAA at 7-4 in league pay. First pitch for Game 3 is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Warrior Baseball Field.
