Baseball Clinches Series with Two Wins Over Oglethorpe

Conway, Ark. – On the back of three consecutive series losses in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), Hendrix responded with two wins over Oglethorpe in their Friday doubleheader at Warrior Baseball Field and clinch the series to set up the sweep opportunity on Saturday.

Game 1 (W 12-2)
The Warriors run-ruled Oglethorpe as Ian Guthrie walked it off in the bottom of the 8th with a 2-RBI base hit to bring the run rule into effect.

The Stormy Petrels took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd, but Hendrix hit back with a 3-spot in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Adam Bland for the second and third runs.

Hendrix plated six runs across the 6th and 7th innings to set up Guthrie's walk off in the 8th.

David Blackburn (W, 4-3) was the pitcher of record in Game 1, scattering 8 hits across 7.0 innings, striking out 4 batters and only allowing 2 runs across. Ryan Torres entered in relief and was superb, allowing just one hit in a scoreless frame.

Game 2 (W, 2-1)
After leading off the 2nd inning with a walk, Owen Shaw was eventually brought home by an Austin Rabago sacrifice fly for the game's first run.

Shaw would touch home again and score what would become the winning run after a one-out triple in the 4th inning, where he was subsequently brought in by a Zach Marriott sacrifice fly.

Dylan Kalmus (W, 4-2) earned the decision after a masterful evening on the mound. The freshman carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning and exited after 6.1 IP in which he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7.

JD Nichols entered in relief in the 7th and, with bases loaded and the tying-run just 90 feet away, secured the final two outs to secure the win and earn his second save of the season.
