Conway, Ark. - Hendrix defeated in-state foes Ozarks 6-3 on Tuesday evening at Warrior Baseball Field.
Austin Rabago led off the 3rd with a single, and tried to score from first off a subsequent
Ian Guthrie double but was thrown out at home.
Joseph Watts then teed off with a double to right center that brought in Guthrie for the game's opening score. After stealing third, Watts touched home on a
Zach Marriott RBI ground-out to make it a 2-0 contest.
The Warriors got two on in the 4th after
Drake Job reached on a hit-by-pitch and
Owen Shaw walked. Griffen Baird advanced the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, and Rabago batted in Job with a sacrifice fly out to right. Shaw would be left stranded in the 4th with Hendrix taking a 3-0 lead.
Ozarks plated two in the 5th and were threatening to tie the game, but Guthrie showed off his arm and nailed a runner trying to steal second for the second out of the inning, and
Dylan Kalmus subsequently induced a ground-out to end the inning and limit the damage.
Hendrix responded by plating two more runs in the home half of the 5th. Watts led off the inning with a walk, before Marriott smoked a double down the left field line. After Bland was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
Hogan Ralston grounded out to the shortstop to score Watts. Job then sent out a sacrifice fly out the center field to bring in Marriott.
After Ozarks put another run on the board in the 6th, Baird slapped a lead-off double down the left field line and was brought in by Guthrie for Hendrix's sixth and final run of the contest.
Ryan Torres (S, 2) entered in relief of Kalmus in 7th and earned the save with three scoreless, hit-less frames after facing just one batter over the minimum.
Kalmus (W, 3-1) earned the winning decision after scattering seven hits in six innings of work while giving up just three runs.
