Conway, Ark. - For the second time in three days, the Hendrix Warriors surrendered an equalizing goal midway through the second half. And for the second time in the three days, the Warriors managed to find a late winner.
This time, it was
Camy McKenzie who supplied the heroics, and it could not have come at a better time. The senior found the ball at the top of the box with five seconds remaining in regulation and coolly sent a right-footed shot past McMurry's Kaitlyn Gustafson at the death for the game winner in front of a raucous crowd at Warrior Soccer Field.
McKenzie was also involved in the buildup for Hendrix's first goal when she set
Sofia Fennelly in on goal. Fennelly turned around her defender quickly and slotted home a tidy right-footed finish for her first-ever collegiate goal to open the scoring.
McMurry found the equalizer with twenty minutes left to play. The War Hawks enjoyed long spells of possession and totaled six shots to Hendrix's four, but ultimately were only able to find the net once, thanks in large part to a strong Hendrix back line and the play from
Kennedy Lewis in goal. Lewis recorded five saves, two of which were destined for the bottom left corner that were kept out smartly.
Hendrix improves to 2-0-0 on the year, and will remain home to host the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Thursday in a first-ever matchup between the two in-state schools.
