Conway, Ark. - After going winless in their opening five matches, Hendrix shutout Lyon on Monday night for their third win in as many matches.
Goals from
Jensen Pechar and
Charlie Mata helped the Warriors get revenge on their in-state foes after Hendrix lost 1-0 to the Scots back on Sept. 6.
The first half ended scoreless with neither side really threatening the other's goal.
James Leone recorded the lone save of the opening 45 minutes.
Pechar opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half with his fifth goal of the season. The junior picked up the ball on the right side of the box and found enough space to rifle a shot past the Scots' goalkeeper into the roof of the net.
Lyon threatened with several opportunities from set pieces but struggled to test Leone in the second half.
Mata put the game away with 15 minutes to play. The ball fell to him after a rebounded shot, and the junior let fly with a thunderous shot with his weaker foot for a 2-0 lead. It was Mata's first goal of the season, and a well-timed one at that.
Hendrix improves to 3-3-2 on the year with the win in their final tune-up match before conference play. They now head to Jackson, Miss. for their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opener versus Millsaps.
