Women's Basketball Sputters in Loss to Berry

CONWAY - Hendrix women's basketball returned home to host the Berry Vikings on Friday night, falling 55-41 to the Berry Vikings in front of a packed Grove Gymnasium.

The Warriors (7-11, 0-5 SAA) started off the game with a 9-0 scoring run, capped off by Bella Cates' triple at the 4:59 mark. However, Berry came out of the media timeout firing and ended the quarter with their own 9-0 run to tie the game headed into the second quarter. The Vikings dominated the following 10 minutes, outscoring the Warriors 18-10. Hendrix led 19-18 with 3:40 left in the half before Berry closed the quarter with another 9-0 run.

The second half fared no better for Coach Wes Sullivan's team, as Berry led by as many as 15 in the third quarter before Hendrix was able to whittle it down to 9 as the game went into the fourth quarter.

A couple free throws from Ava Knoedl and a Cates' jumper pulled Hendrix within 5 just a couple minutes into the final frame, but Berry answered and was able to stamp their authority on the game with an 11-0 run that all but sealed the win for the visitors.

Riley Brady led the Warriors with 12 points and 18 rebounds, her seventh consecutive double-double and eighth in the last nine games. Knoedl finished in double figures as well with 10 points. Cates recorded 5 points with a season-high 5 rebounds to go along with a career-high 3 blocks.

Hendrix remains at Grove Gymnasium to host Oglethorpe on Sunday for a 12:00 PM tip-off.
